On the heels of Apple's decision to abandon the developer access to UDID (unique identifier) on the device iOS, mobile social gaming network OpenFeint offers up an alternative solution. The company announced today that it launches the single sign-on system for social game developers, which will replace UDIDs iOS.
The system will be available later this fall.
It was observed a change in the final set'S UDID access release notes for iOS5, where he was listed as "obsolete". UDID alphanumeric string that is unique to each device Apple is currently used by mobile advertising networks, gaming network, analytics providers, developers, and system testing app as TestFlight, for example. In some cases, developers use even UDID to check whether users have access to their app from the new device.
In other words this kind of change is very, very big deal.
However, with the new system, OpenFeint game developer community, at least, will have another option. Users will choose to OpenFeint's new single sign on system, which then gives the developer access to OpenFeint OFUID, a universal system for users, cross platform gaming network.
Using the OFUID, developers can examine and analyze user behavior through games in order to better understand what works within their applications and that needs to be corrected. It will also help game developers with their ad targeting efforts. All data will be anonymous to protect user privacy, OpenFeint says.
Unfortunately, unlike Apple UDID, OFUID only works when the user chooses to log on to OpenFeint. And it is clear that is not a universal replacement UDID because OpenFeint is only on mobile games.
OpenFeint Announces also the accompanying trade Setup "for developers to contribute to the new system. OpenFeint says that he will guarantee new application developers 1.5 installs for each new installation of his "game channel," a new application that the SSO system to work.
Developers interested in early access can register to participate in the new agenda here.
OpenFeint has currently over 6900 games on their network and more than 115 million registered users. It was acquired by GREE Japanese mobile games in April for $ 104 million.
The best social gaming network for Android devices and iOS.
