AT&T Hyperlocal sites show off network upgrades

If you've ever called your carrier with spotty coverage, then most likely you have heard the party line: "we are working to improve services in your area. This delightfully vague — you know what your problems are treated only with no specific time for improvement.

Today AT&T announced their intention to make these mythical service improvement more transparent. Eight microsites for major markets went live this morning, all focusing on service improvements last year.

In the Philadelphia area for example, AT&T accepts credit 961 update service year to date, ranging from installing new cell sites (13) for the ability to update (552). An increase in the part of the map provides a more detailed breakdown of the work AT&T in some towns and districts. Market Dallas/Fort Worth appeared to have a majority in the 2011 year 1374 network improvements, while the Tampa-St. Petersburg had to do with only 248.

Interestingly, hyperlocal sites also include projected LTE coverage before and after the proposed merger of T-Mobile. Merger of course map shows a sharp increase in 4 G LTE lighting, but one has to wonder how much it could've been achieved in any case, if AT&T was ready to throw cash for improvements to the network.

In addition to these markets, residents of Houston, St. Louis, Kansas City, Miami-Fort Lauderdale, Indianapolis and Atlanta, you can access their site to find out exactly what AT&T was recently. Sites are updated weekly to reach interested subscribers could see if AT&T actually make good on their claim.
