I remember when I first wrote about Foodspotting a year and a half ago. While almost everything I knew uses various social networks share photos of their food. Foodspotting was built around this very idea of service. It just might have been enough, but the larger goal behind sharing photos has always been the discovery of food.

Today the service has hit one million downloads of their food detection applications. And to celebrate, they're upping the social ties within the app with a new tab "to follow". From here, you will be able to find and follow your friends (and nutrition experts) who also use Foodspotting. And you can also monitor specific products and restaurants all in one thread.

"When you visit a new city, or go to the restaurant, you can see what each other — or travel channel is recommended there. Along with a million downloads Foodspotting now has over 720 000 reviews/photos on the service, we are told.

The latest version (2.5) is now live in the App Store here. And in the Android market here. Foodspotting noted that they also beta BlackBerry app, built with a partner.
