Most developers will agree: build backends is not fun. It's like setting out to build the game of your dreams, you will have to spend 2 months on the rendering engine is the time when you're done building things that most people don't even realize is there, you don't have the energy to build fun things.

Kinvey, TechStars Boston 2011 launch, just closed a $ 2 M round for their product "Backend Service", which is designed to enable mobile developers to skip past all the boring database building and get right to the fun stuff.
