Due to the lack of a better term Apple was more than a little litigation happy lately. Although they focused most of their recent efforts at Samsung and Motorola, Apple now coming under fire from a company they've sued: HTC.

HTC sued (warning: PDF) in United States District Court for Delaware stating that Apple infringes on three of its patents by producing what they call the legalese "Accused Apple products." the list of products is extensive, to say the least: it lists, among other things, "personal computers, mobile devices, wireless printers, wireless streaming capable TV, wireless hardware, [and] portable digital music and video players. In short almost everything Apple does is alleged to infringe patents owned by HTC.

Three patents, HTC claims were affected only one (# 7, 765, 414) HTC was filed When the HTC themselves. 75 million dollars to purchase ADC Telecommunications patent portfolio in April were played the other two patents in issue (# 7, 672, 219 and # 7, 417, 944). They relate to "multipoint-to-point communication using orthogonal frequency spectral multiplexing" and "method", respectively, orderwire moduation two themes that are obviously going to cover the entire Apple product lineup.

HTC suit also aims for bleach when it comes down to the smallest of their compensation. On the basis of the actual damages for patent infringement of Apple's HTC also seeks expanded loss prior to triple the amount of compensation for the damage. Moreover, an action provides for the possibility of an injunction against make, sell or import any of the accused Apple products in the United States

This is a huge step from HTC, which Apple shared some rough history. Bearing in mind that continues in the tech world over the past week, it feels as though this claim may be the result of many factors. HTC may simply shooting back at Apple for another claim of patent infringement, they were on the receiving end. It may also be at a certain level, a show of force after deal Google/Motorola, a way to enhance their credibility as fighters for future competition with Motorola. In any case, HTC has asked the jury, so there will be much, much more drama to come.
